Casino Poker Info |
The actual origins of the popular card game of Poker is arguable. Some
believe it can be dated to the 15th century German card game named
Pochspiel. Others believe it resembles the Persian game Nas from the
1890s. Still other historians believe neither. That most certainly the
name Poker is derived from the name of the French game of Poque.
Regardless of the origin, no one can argue the popularity of modern
casino poker. It is played at homes and of course in the numerous casinos worldwide.
Casino poker games differ from one variation to another. Hand ranking
hierarchy remains constant. Betting limits, the way cards are dealt,
the amount of hands which can be formed and how many rounds of betting
are allowed vary. There are three main families of Poker:
Straight: Each player is dealt a complete (full) hand, with players
betting in turn. They can raise and re-raise.
Stud: The most popular variant, seven card stud, three face down, and
four face up. From which they make the best five card combination.
Draw: Each player is dealt five cards face down, and after betting,
players are allowed to change their unwanted cards with a like number
of new draws.
A variation to stud casino poker is Community. Players dealt
two
cards down and then three cards are placed face up on the centre of the
table. Community cards are used by all players. This variation is also
known as Texas hold-them and Omaha.
Other forms of casino poker exist. Video Poker can be played as a
single player computer game or online in multi-player real life
versions. Strip Poker involves the removing of clothing as players lose
rounds. Acey-Deucey and Red Dog are related only with the Poker name.
Both are more similar to Blackjack than to Poker. The best casinos worldwide
propose many of these poker variations.
Casino poker and its popularity have spiked with the advances of the Internet casino rooms
and the introduction and the hole-card camera, which has turned the
game into a spectator sport.
